Earthquake

While far less common than in other parts of the world, South Carolina has experienced a number of earthquakes over the past century. Some of these earthquakes have been fairly substantial in the damage they have caused.

Most earthquake activity goes un-noticed. Recently Charleston, SC had a minor 3.6 magnitude quake. However, Charleston is also the site of a 7.3 magnitude quake, back in the late 1800's. That quake was one of the largest earthquakes in the history of the Eastern United States
