At Anderson County Emergency Services we recommend that every family have a basic disaster kit at the ready.

Here is a basic list of just some of the items you should have ready for a Basic Emergency Supply Kit:

Water, one gallon per person per day for three days, for drinking and sanitation

Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food

Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert

Extra batteries for both radios above

Flashlight and extra batteries

First aid kit

Dust mask, and plastic sheeting and duct tape to "shelter-in-place"

Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation

Basic tools, including a wrench or pliers to turn off utilities

Hand operated can opener for food (if kit contains canned food)

Cell phone with chargers, including mobile chargers for the car

A complete change of clothes.

Another consideration are people that have special needs.  This includes those with health or mobility issues.  Special needs can also be those with cognizant of recongnition issues.  For help with dealing with those situations we have a special program in place.  Project Special Response was developed in helping individuals in Anderson County get the help they need in times of disaster.
