While far less common than in other parts of the world, South Carolina has experienced a number of earthquakes over the past century. Some of these earthquakes have been fairly substantial in the damage they have caused.
Most earthquake activity goes un-noticed.

Recently Charleston, SC had a minor 3.6 magnitude quake. However, Charleston is also the site of a 7.3 magnitude quake, back in the late 1800's. That quake was one of the largest earthquakes in the history of the Eastern United States.  Click on left to download the SC earthquake guide.
